At the heart of the fertile plain of the Comtat Venaissin, Carpentras, its capital, offers lovers of old stones a rich heritage illustrating a past steeped in history. Carpentras is first and foremost a town of history.
Take a stroll through the fresh, light-filled streets and lanes of the town centre to discover the town's treasures: the Porte d'Orange, remains of the old fortifications, the episcopal palace, the Saint-Siffrein cathedral, the Hôtel-Dieu and its superb 18th-century pharmacy...
Pay close attention to the facades of the houses you come across, and you'll see some 17th and 18th century mansions with beautiful doors and balconies restored in the purest Provencal tradition.
