Les Gites de Bel-Air

L'Echo de Bel-Air

Editorial

The trompe l'oeil decorating the walls of our two gîtes is now complete.
3 years of work to create a village with the following characteristics:
A total of 71 linear metres of frescoes and a decorated surface area of 185 square metres await you.
The challenge for these decorations was to give our friends on holiday the chance to take centre stage and bring back memories of days gone by in their luggage.

LES GÎTES DE BEL-AIR - TROMPE L'OEIL

So the drawings had to be mixed with depth and real utensils to give perspective.
The latest decoration is a revisited game of pétanque with Maître Panisse, Escartefique, César and Monsieur Brun, who falls off his chair while reading the news in LE MIDI.
It's hard to tell what's real and what's not, but that's exactly what you'll feel when you visit this village, which is unique in the region and on the Calavon cycle route.
Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to discover the 15 frescoes or visit our website.

TOURIST FAVOURITES - ST RÉMY DE PROVENCE

An ancient city on the outskirts of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. More than a century of archaeological research on the Glanum site has produced evidence of an exceptional architectural ensemble. The local elite made the most of natural resources, the perennial spring and the limestone, to adorn the city with a monumental setting that is unique in Provence.
Situated in the heart of the Alpilles massif, at the crossroads of major traffic routes, this Gallic city was bathed in Greek and then Roman influences and experienced its full development from the 2nd century BC onwards.
From the viewpoints, enjoy an exceptional panorama of the site before coming to enjoy the pleasures of its sacred spring.
Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is the ideal starting point for long hikes or mountain bike rides, and lovers of wide open spaces and sport will find some real treasures here. From Roman remains to modern-day culture, this Provencal village will take you on a journey through time.

VAN GOGH - A WALK THROUGH THE WORLD OF VAN GOGH

A free walk, lasting around an hour, takes you through the landscapes that inspired Vincent van Gogh. Punctuated by 19 reproductions of works painted in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, this one-and-a-half kilometre trail takes you into the world of the artist. Signs guide your steps.
To enhance your discovery, you can download the Van Gogh Natures application: a multimedia guide that allows you to rediscover the painter's vision by putting each work back into its original context. This approach gives you the opportunity to put the artist's landscapes into dialogue with today's territories, revealing their sensitive dimensions.
Vincent van Gogh arrived in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence on 8 May 1889 following a violent attack in which he cut off his earlobe. On his way from Arles, he voluntarily committed himself to the Saint-Paul de Mausole hospital. Vincent van Gogh stayed there for a whole year, until May 1890.
It was in his small hospital room that he experienced his most productive period, a major period in his life as an artist. He produced almost 150 paintings and numerous drawings, including «La Nuit Étoilée», «Les amandiers en fleurs» and «Les Iris».

The Van Gogh route
A free walking tour of around an hour, through the landscapes that inspired Vincent van Gogh, takes you into the world of the artist. Signposts will guide you from the historic centre, starting at the Musée Estrine, to the Cloitre Saint-Paul de Mausole, where you'll find 19 reproductions of his most emblematic paintings.
If you're a fan of the artist, you can hire an audio guide, available in French or English, from the reception desk at the Saint-Rémy-de-Provence Intercommunal Tourist Office, retracing the stories and anecdotes of Vincent van Gogh in Saint-Rémy.
