CHRYSANTHEMUMS

Chrysanthemums are loved the world over. Generally speaking, the flower symbolises happiness, loyalty, honesty and friendship, and conveys a message of hope, joy, loyalty and long life. But its meaning differs depending on where you are on earth. Here are a few examples:

IN ASIA

Chrysanthemums are revered throughout Asia. It is the ultimate symbol of happiness and good health.
The Japanese have made this flower their national symbol and celebrate the «Festival of Happiness» every year. In China, the name of this flower means ‘the essence of the sun’.

IN EUROPE

Chrysanthemums represent colour and warmth in the heart of autumn.

IN FRANCE, BELGIUM AND GERMANY

Chrysanthemums are traditionally associated with mourning and All Saints' Day, simply because they are the most beautiful flowers of autumn. However, the new cut flower varieties tend to embody longevity and joy.

IN THE NETHERLANDS

Chrysanthemums are also a symbol of autumn in this country, but they are given to celebrate 13 years of marriage.

TOURIST FAVOURITES FONTAINE DE VAUCLUSE

Many traces of the village's glorious past charm visitors, such as the remains of the Château des Évêques de Cavaillon (12th century). The Church of Saint-Véran-Sainte-Marie, listed as a Historic Monument, was built on the ruins of a pagan temple. It is dedicated to the Saint who, according to legend, delivered the region from a fearsome monster, the Couloubre. In the centre of the village stands a column erected in 1804 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Petrarch's birth.

PETRARCH'S GARDENS

I'm going to tell you a secret. It's thanks to Olivier, our guide on the sketch walk, who introduced me to this place that I'd never seen before. That's right!
I wanted to share this magnificent place with you. In the heart of the village of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, stroll along the river Sorgue to the Jardin de Pétrarque.
Take a stroll through the Jardin de Pétrarque in Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, relax along our beautiful river, read a book in the sunshine. Or, if you look up, admire the Château des Évêques in Cavaillon.
A calm and relaxing place to daydream!

HERE WE ARE!

I owe you an explanation. The CALAVON cycle route is now on Google. Thanks to the trompe l'oeil and the decoration, we have become a landmark for users of the cycle route. A lot of people on the cycle route stop off, take photos which are free to use, and some even ask me to come in and have a look around. We've succeeded in recreating a village where life is good.
